We don’t spend much time on our hobbies or doing things which make us feel and look good, and as a result our confidence drops as we feel unhappy.

This feeling is normal, especially when you’re a first-time mum. It’s a shock adjusting to motherhood, you have to find new ways to take care of yourself and do things which you enjoy.

Below are the 10 things you can do to boost your self-esteem and feel more confident:

boost your confidence as a mum

1. Get ready for the day

Start your day off right by getting yourself ready for the day. You will feel so much more confident and happier once you’ve showered, brushed your hair and got dressed. Even if you’re staying at home all day, you can still get yourself ready, it will make you feel happier and more productive!

2. Choose to have a productive day or a present day

Choose what you want to focus on today, whether that’s to have a productive day, a present-day or maybe just a peaceful day. Don’t give yourself a huge to-do list and make yourself stressed trying to get it done. Instead, give yourself one of two tasks you want to get done and work out whether you need to do this during nap time or not.

3. Unfollow accounts which don’t make you feel good

Only follow accounts which inspire, motivate and connect with you. If the accounts you follow make you feel negative, then you need to unfollow and unsubscribe. This is the same for real life, if someone is draining your energy it’s time to distance yourself from them and protect yourself from their negative energy.

4. Exercise to feel good

It can be difficult to establish an exercise routine when you’re a mum. You can’t exercise like you use to, but you can change the way you think and feel about exercise. Remove the pressure around exercise and just do what feels good. Go for a walk to the park or do a home workout while you’re child is playing or napping.

5. Set Yourself Goals

Setting yourself goals will help build your confidence and increase your self-esteem. This is because you’re focusing on yourself and the goal you’ve set. It’s a good idea to break down your big goals into smaller monthly goals, this will help build your confidence every month.

6. Leave the house

It’s easy to feel like you’re going crazy when you haven’t left the house all day. Get yourself and the kids ready and leave the house, it will make you feel better by getting some fresh air. Meet a friend, grab a coffee, walk to the park, go to the library, find any excuse to get yourself dressed and leave the house.

7. Make time for your hobbies

Time is limited when you’re a mum and finding time for your hobbies is usually the last thing on your list. But to boost your confidence and feel good you should take care of yourself and spend time doing the things you enjoy. Whether that’s doing some gardening, reading a book, or taking a bubble bath.

8. Ignore unwanted advice

Family and friends mean well when they give you advice, but when the advice is unwanted, it can leave you feeling like you’re doing something wrong. Don’t doubt yourself, you know what’s best for your child and what works for you and your family. You can’t always stop people from giving you unwanted advice but you can control which advice you listen to.
